Kelly Clarkson, Happy With Her Weight, Airbrushed to be Thinner

Kelly Clarkson‘s weight has gone up and down repeatedly over the course of her career, and she’s fine with that, she tells Self magazine in a cover story. But the magazine still Photoshopped off some of her body for the mag’s cover. Guess you can have your cake and eat it, too!

Self editor Lucy Danziger defends the digital deletion, saying it was done “only to make her look her personal best.” Well, duh, Lucy. We all know how computers can be used to alter someone’s appearance – have you seen Terminator 2? But we expect that technology to be used on acne, not something completely implausible like making Kelly Clarkson thin. (Not hating! I love the girl. She’s curvy. We all know that. If you’re going to have her on the cover, have all of her.)

Check out this piece of sophistry: “A (magazine) cover’s job is to sell the magazine…In the sense that Kelly is the picture of confidence, and she truly is, then I think this photo is the truest we have ever put out there on the newsstand.” By that logic, a Photoshopped picture of Sherri Shepherd drooling on herself because she forgot to swallow would be “true,” too. It doesn’t make it right.
