Maybe Kanye West is a changed man, because the same guy who was challenging 50 Cent last fall to see who could sell more records, says he doesn’t care how many records his latest album sells, because he made “great art.”
West tells the AP of 808’s and Heartbreaks, which was released Monday, “You know people sometimes don’t understand great art when they first hear it, but I am very confident in it. Whether it sells as much as the last one, or way more, I feel like I am just successful in doing something I felt really good about.”
Sure he’s rich as hell already from his previous records, so he doesn’t have to sound all cocky or confidant anymore, but for some reason I believe him here.
I’ve gave this album a couple of listens, and it has a more original artsy feel to it. You can almost tell that he did it mainly for himself, to do something he was happy about. I bet some of the original Kanye fans are going to be using it as a drink coaster, but he’ll probably gain a few as well.
