At least as far as the hosts were concerned. Jeremy Piven received an award for best supporting actor for the third time for his role of Ari Gould on Entourage, but he was not pleased with the decision to ditch the usual single host format and invite the 5 nominees for best reality host to host the show.
Piven was given the first award of the night, so he was backstage ready to go while the hosts were opening the show. Of the opening Piven told reporters backstage;
“It was a celebration of nothing, I was confused.”
This could have been the reason the Emmys had the worst ratings in years!
