After the 2005 Muppets’ Wizard of Oz was a giant flop, comedian Jason Segal is trying to revive the historic franchise with a film that will be more true to Jim Henson’s roots.
Segal starred in 2008’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, where he wrote a musical based on a Muppet like puppet version of Dracula, and he’s currently writing the next film for the likes of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
After striking a deal with Disney, Segal said, “I’m trying to bring back the Muppets. I’m writing a new Muppet movie so hopefully I can bring the Muppets back to (be more) like (1984 film) Muppets Take Manhattan.”
Nicholas Stoller is expected to direct.
