You ever realize how every person with a halfway decent ear for music declares they are a DJ? They slap the vocals from a Beatles song with the backbeat of a 80’s hip hop song and sit around waiting for the millions to roll in.
Who is encouraging these people?! Well, for now it’s Activision, the company behind the massively successful video game Guitar Hero. The company has created DJ Hero, a game based on the Guitar Hero model, which will allow players to create mixes, even utilizing a special turntable controller. The game is set to release October 27 for XBOX 360, PS2, PS3, and Wii.
DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Am, Grandmaster Flash, and DJ Shadow will be featured in the game. Sam Ronson was snubbed.
The game will feature numerous mixes, including a Rihanna vs. Motorhead mix, so you’ll probably hear a lot of the music from it in the club. Be warned.
Maybe the game will teach people that selecting an electropop b-side on your iTunes and hitting play does not make you a DJ.
