Hugh Jackman, the most aggressively campy heterosexual man who can actually get away with it (I guess you get a free pass to prance and “jazz-hand” when you can convincingly play Wolverine) will be suiting up to play the pageantry-salesman P.T. Barnum in an original musical.
I had planned on making some sort of play on the most famous quote attributed to the legendary huckster, but it’s a good thing I do a cursory Google search to fact-check these things – P.T Barnum never said that, according to this. (If you don’t read it, let me summarize: the quote came from a competitor of Barnum’s who also wanted to milk the public of every cent possible. They were both sleazy.) Then I realized I didn’t have to Google the quote at all, because the article says the same thing halfway down.
The studio is in talks with British singer-songwriter Mika to write music and lyrics.
No! Why?! Just because he’s so perfectly appropriate? That’s not a good enough reason. Wait, why do I care? I’m never seeing this. It’s a musical. Granted, I’ve never seen one before, but I just know, you know?
