Saturday Night Live is rumored to have added two female comedians to their cast for its upcoming 35th season. The two comedians are Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedradi. Their casting means that the total number of women on the show is up to 6, compared to the men’s total of 9. The increase of women may mean less men in drag, unfortunately.
SNL is still highly white though, with Kenan Thompson as the only black person on the cast- forcing Fred Armisen to do blackface when he impersonated Obama. Even when they do a View sketch Sherri Shepard is always absent because they don’t have anyone to play her. Although Nasim Pedradi is Persian, her light skin means she can’t play people of color any better than Kristen Wiig.
While it’s great that SNL is including more females on the cast, can we please get more diversity? Oh, and please be funny while you’re at it.
