Philip Seymour Hoffman is an Oscar winner and has appeared in plenty of great films, but even that’s not enough to make Shakespeare interesting. The NY Post reports audiences at his new production of Othello are clearing out come intermission:
It’s not just critics who hate Peter Sellars’ production of “Othello” starring Philip Seymour Hoffman at NYU’s Skirball Center. Audiences hate it too, with most leaving at intermission. Will Pulos reports onNYULocal.com that the scene at the theater one recent night “was, in fact, pretty brutal. I basically haven’t seen a theatrical exodus that large since sitting through a community theater production of ‘Clue: The Musical’ in northern Michigan.”
Brutal.
