If you’re from any major American city, you’re familiar with at least one Jew who listens exclusively to gangster rap, uses drug dealer-inspired slang, and raps along to Cam’Ron while driving with the bass amped up and windows down. In fact, you’re reading a blog post written by one right now. The difference, of course, is that I don’t wear hemp necklaces, I hate Bob Marley, and I didn’t record “I Love College.” In other words, I’m not Asher Roth.
The dopey blond heeb who once Tweeted a joke about “nappy headed hoes” and then backpedaled quicker than a fixed-gear bike rider approaching a cliff is now the subject of a false “coming out” rumor campaign: Mr. Roth was purportedly planning to admit his swishness in a special for E! Television. The rumors began after he made some sort of pro-Clay Aiken comment, which, to viciously homophobic rap fans, is the equivalent of signing up to announce your homosexuality on television. His record label released this:
Asher Roth is not gay, and is not scheduled to be interviewed on the E! Channel. Furthermore, Asher has not been dropped from SRC Records, and is a top priority at the label after having sold over a million copies his ‘I Love College’ single. Asher is currently working on his next album for SRC.
