We knew he wouldn’t do it, and a six year commitment is sort of a lot, especially since he’s done it before with three Lord of the Rings films, but Peter Jackson will NOT direct The Hobbit.
Yesterday we reported that Guillermo Del Tori quit the film, which was in pre production, and producer Peter Jackson is still 100% committed to getting it done, though him not stepping in to direct it we think makes him more like 75% committed.
Jackson’s manager released the following statement regarding any hope Jackson would direct the film himself:
“As for Peter directing, that’s not something he can consider at this time as he has other commitments to other projects. But make no mistake, Peter and Fran’s commitment to the franchise is total and will do everything necessary to protect the films and the investment made by New Line, [parent company] Warner Bros. and MGM.”
As much as we want Peter Jackson to do it, it would take him too long, so just hopefully he finds someone he trusts soon and they get it done!
