Sylvester Stallone is speaking out about his worst movie decision ever, and you may be surprised!
Stallone tells Britain’s The Sun that Rocky V, released in 1990 was the franchise’s worst film, and that he only made it because he was greedy at the time.
He explains:
“I’m greedy – what can I tell you? It was a mistake because the audience didn’t want to see the downside of the character. They wanted him to remain on top. I should have known that. I fell into a sense of self-parody.”
Rocky V was the worst? What about Rocky Balboa, the sixth film that came out in 2006, putting the 60 year old back in the ring against a young champ.
That one was the greedy film, and that one was the worst film!
To this date, the Rocky franchise has generated over 1 billion dollars world wide.
I wouldn’t say ROCKY V was Sly’s worst film. It would have to be RHINESTONE &/or STOP! OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT! But that’s just MY opinion. If you want the worst of all 6 ROCKY’s? Then I’d say #4 but I KNOW I’ll be in the minority on that!
Rocky Balboa (the sixth film) was a heartfelt, character-driven story of Rocky facing mortality and the need to give it one last shot. It’s a perfect closure to the series. It was in no way a cash-in. It remains a metaphor for Stallone’s own career. See it.
His worst films would have to include Judge Dread and Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot – what was all that about. Sheeeesh.
Here’s hoping The Expendables delivers on the promise!
“Rocky Balboa” was the BEST of the Rocky sequels. I agree with Dianna Trent that “Rocky IV” was the worst of the series. “Rocky V” is far from the worst film Stallone has made…”Eye See You,” “Avenging Angelo,” “Victory,” those are all worse.
