A very special congratulations goes out to Kareem Abdul Jabbar today, who announced on Twitter that he is 100% cancer free.
Jabbar tweeted: “re my medical condition, I am 100% cancer free !!”
KAJ was diagnosed with a rare form of lukemia in 2009 and has beat it entirely as of this week!
He also announced that he’s starting a new career as a film maker and will be premiering his film in both NYC and LA once it is finished. We’re excited to see it!
Congrats Kareem!
Congratulations indeed! It’s important to note that with this type of leukemia, even when a person reaches remission, he/she must continue to take the medication. Otherwise, the cancer returns.
I am so glad that he has had success with his medication but there is not a cure yet for CML.Those of us with the disease must maintain our level of remission with continued daily chemo.

He is not cured, he is only in a molecular remission which means he probably is undetected at this point with a Negative PCR Test. We all wish it was that simple to get rid of CML.
I was diagnosed in 1998, and have been in a Molecular remission for 7 years now. If I was to stop my Gleevec Treatment, it would return. Someone needs to talk to him about the truth of CML.
