Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is probably not counting on any backing from Hollywood, or the entire state of California for that matter when it comes to elections in 2012, but when he made headline news with his comments of Natalie Portman on Thursday night, it was time for a little damage control.
While participating in a radio interview, Huckabee blasted Portman’s pregnancy, claiming she was setting a bad example for having a baby out of wedlock.
“I think it gives a distorted image,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of- wedlock children.”
Portman is engaged to the childs father, Benjamin Millipied, whom she met on the set of her Oscar winning film, Black Swan, where Millipied was a choreographer.
Though it’s not really the case for Portman, Huckabee added, “Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care.”
After the interview hit the net and backlash towards Huckabee started to trend, He took the time to clear up his statements by telling Us Magazine in a statement, “These people should read my book and they would know what I said instead of what some left-wing partisans are attempting to put forth. I do appreciate the attention to the book as it is sparking interest in it dramatically.”
While some of his points do make sense, Natalie Portman may not have been the greatest example of someone setting a bad example.
He, like most republican conservatives, are assumptious, judgemental, hypocritical asses.
