Manny Ramirez has decided to hang up the spikes!
Manny’s decision came after he was notified by the MLB of that there was an issue regarding the league’s drug policy.
Back in 2009, Ramirez was suspended 50 games with the LA Dodgers after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, causing him to miss a third of the season. He was well aware the next violation would be a suspension of 100 games.
Ramirez also tested positive for PEDs during this year’s spring training, where he was a member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Rather than face a suspension and sit out 100 games, Ramirez announced his retirement from the league.
The MLB revealed in a statement: “Rather than continue with the process under the program, Ramirez has informed MLB that he is retiring as an active player,” a statement from MLB said. “If Ramirez seeks reinstatement in the future, the process under the Drug Program will be completed. MLB will not have any further comment on this matter.”
Manny played 19 seasons in the MLB, with multiple clubs including the Cleveland Indians, Boston Redsox, LA Dodgers, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Ramirez finishes his career with 555 home runs. In the first week of this baseball season, he was batting 1-17 with the Rays.
