Evangeline Lilly is a little concerned of the reception she’s going to receive when Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ is released, due to the fact her character was created solely for the film.
The novel, written by J.R.R. Tolkien featured all male characters, but for Jackson’s film adaptation, new characters, females specifically, have been created as part of the story telling.
The actress is worried that purist Middle Earth fans will not welcome such a change with open arms.
She explains, “The Hobbit didn’t include female characters at all. I can see why additional characters were needed to round out the story as an adaptation, especially female characters.”
“I am very concerned that people will watch and I’ll be the black mark on the film. I know how adamant the purists are and I’m one of them.”
In Lilly’s defense, we must ask the question, how could anyone be upset about adding a hot girl to a movie?
Then again, when is the last time nerds cared about hot girls?
“Then again, when is the last time nerds cared about hot girls?” <– this is them most idiotic comment I have read. Evangeline knows her fandom and she knows that the books are very important for many people, they are part of their life.
Your immature comment made aside, She should not worry too much. Purists are a minority and I think that most of us will enjoy the movie if her characters is realistic and as far as possible of the Mary-Sue area. After all, a bunch of dwarves and a hobbit are no material to pull in the audience who is not familiar with Tolkien's world and fantasy.
