Legendary singer Etta James has died at age 73 at a hospital in Riverside, California.
James spent the past few years blighted by illness – she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2009 and hospitalized in early 2010 after contracting an infection caused by the MRSA bug.
Her cancer diagnosis came at the beginning of 2011 and in December after her health further deteriorated and she was forced to spend her last Christmas under the care of doctors in a Riverside hospital after suffering breathing difficulties.
James was a three time Grammy winning artist with two of her songs inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame.
