The Hunger Games has been the box office champ for 3 weekends in a row now, so why wouldn’t PETA chime in and take aim at the film?
Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss in the film is seen ripping the fur from a squirrel in the film, and he discussed the bloody scene in her latest interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
In PETA’s defense (for once) they had been quiet about the film until the interview came out.
Without being provoked, Lawrence took aim at PETA in the interview, telling the magazine, “I should say it wasn’t real, for PETA. But screw PETA.”
A representative for the animal rights group has now hit back at Lawrence and urged her to be a bit more compassionate. Telling WENN, “She’s young and the plight of animals somehow hasn’t yet touched her heart. As (American author/poet) Henry David Thoreau said, ‘The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.’
“The squirrel was ‘screwed,’ not PETA… We hope Jennifer will learn from other young celebrities like Justin Bieber, Lea Michele and Kellan Lutz, who are using their influence to help, rather than hurt, animals.”
The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation.
