Ashton Kutcher’s latest ad for Pop Chips is catching some heat.
In the new ad, Kutcher appears as a number of characters doing personal ads for a fake dating site, (which re-directs to the Popchips Facebook page) spoofing his recent relationship troubles.
One of the characters, Raj, a Bollywood producer, is coming under fire as a racist caricature of Indians.
Bosses of the potato chip company have defended the actor after his impersonations of several ethnicities sparked an online backlash, and are now hitting back at the racist accusations in a statement.
The statement reads, “The new Popchips worldwide dating video and ad campaign featuring four characters was created to provoke a few laughs and was never intended to stereotype or offend anyone.
“At Popchips we embrace all types of shapes, flavors and colors, and appreciate all snackers, no matter their race or ethnicity. We hope people can enjoy this in the spirit it was intended.”
