President Obama’s re-election campaign was the talk of the town in Hollywood last night, at a dinner hosted by George Clooney at his Los Angeles home. The fundraiser raised $15 million dollars.
150 celebrities and VIPs were in attendance at the dinner, which cost them $40,000 to attend in an effort to help Barack Obama get re-elected this coming November.
Superstars on hand included Barbra Streisand, Robert Downey Jr., Tobey Maguire, Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Salma Hayek and Jack Black.
The dinner itself raised $6 million while separate online donations brought in $9 million, a new record for a Presidential fund raiser.
Speaking at the event, Barack Obama told the crowd, “We raised a lot of money because everybody loves George. They like me, they love him. And rightfully so.”
Though a lot of the Los Angeles community supports Barack Obama, many have been harsh on Clooney for the $15 million dollar fund raiser, wondering why these high rolling VIP residents have never held anything similar to help raise money for Los Angeles schools and libraries.
