Comedian Russell Brand is set to be charged with a crime for throwing a photogapher’s iPhone through a glass window in New Orleans back in March.
TMZ is reporting that the Orleand Parish DA has decided to go forward with prosecution of the actor, and will file one charge of misdemeanor criminal damage to property on Wednesday.
Russell was initially named in the March 12 police report after snatching the cell phone away from the photographer and throwing it through the window of a near by building.
Brand surrendered himself to police on March 15 and explained on Twitter: “Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory.”
The actor and host of the new FX show ‘Brand X’ is prepared to fight the legal battle, and has hired a New Orleans attorney for the case.
If convicted, he faces 6 months in jail.
