Ed O’neill has officially joined his cast-mates and added his name to a lawsuit filed by the five adult co-stars on his hit series ‘Modern Family’ against TV studio bosses in a dispute over contracts for their upcoming season.
Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Julie Bowen, and Ty Burrell have filed the claim, insisting that their current long-term deals with 20th Century Fox TV are in violation of California labor laws, which states that personal service contracts can last not longer than seven years.
The stars are asking a judge to declare their prior agreements null and void, which would also allow for them to negotiate increased salaries. Ed O’neill was not a part of the original filings, but an amended complaint was filed in Los Angeles on Thursday, in which O’Neill wants his deal declared “illegal” as well.
The cast was to be back to work at table reads on Tuesday for the upcoming season, but the filings and legal proceedings forced them to push back until Thursday.
It’s good to see they are still working while this all gets sorted out. TV viewers gotta have their ‘Modern Family.’
