According to Russell Brand, he’d trade in his fame and fortune to be a drug addict again.
Brand has previously battled with drug addiction in the past, but has since become sober, but made a shocking confession while filming a documentary for BBC Three that is due to air in the U.K. later this month.
The Sun newspaper has obtained the clip from the film, titled “Russell Brand: From Addiction to Recovery,” in which the actor admits that despite being clean from drugs for 10 years now, he still has cravings for substance, and sometimes wishes he could give up his current lifestyle to go back to his 20s.
Brand says; “This is when you know it’s a disease. It doesn’t matter that I was sat in that flat (apartment) in Hackney and now I’m in the Savoy (Hotel). I’m jealous of me then. It doesn’t make a difference to me. The money, the fame, the power, the sex, the women – none of it. I’d rather be a drug addict.”
The actor does admit that he’s well aware of the negative impact the toxic substances had on him and his loved ones, adding, “Heroin is a greedy drug, it’ll take everything. First it’ll take your money. Then it’ll take your friends, your family, your car, your house. Then it’s going to take bits of your body. In the end I used to be scoring with people that had eyes missing, limbs missing. You’ll take it until it takes your life.”
“It’ll take everything until the last thing and you’ll gladly give it that rather than give up the drugs.”
Brand has had a pretty rocky past year, with a divorce to Katy Perry just a year after marriage to the pop star, but thankfully he has not fell back into his old habits, and has continued to make people laugh, doing what he does best.
