‘The Possession’ Wins Lowest Grossing Box Office Weekend In Nearly A Decade

Could it be a coincidence that on the week where football made it’s official full weekend return, that the box office suffered it’s lowest grossing weekend of the year?

“The Possession,” a jewish version of “The Exorcist,” took the top box office spot for the second week in a row, even though the film only grossed $9.5 million dollars.

The second place film, “Lawless” earned just $6 million.

According to the AP, this weekend was the lowest grossing weekend of the year, and also the worst weekend for movies in nearly a decade.

Rounding out the top 5 during the dismal weekend were ‘The Words,’ ($5 million) ‘The Expendables 2’ ($4.8 million) and ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ ($4 million)
