Rapper Jay-Z has come under fire a little bit due to his ownership of the new-look Brooklyn Nets.
Jay is known simply as a “part owner” of the NBA franchise, who has been a voice in the room when it came to getting the team’s new arena built for their move to Brooklyn, and even lending his design team to help develop the team’s new color scheme and logos. But why so much effort if the rumors are true, and he only owns less than 1% of the team?
So is his involvement with his home town team just a way to keep them in the spotlight for reasons other than basketball while they try to rebuild after several disappointing seasons?
Jay-Z took the stage at the new arena for a series of concerts this weekend, and he told the crowd on Monday, : “First of all, I don’t know where they get that number from … but it’s not about me, it’s about ya’ll.
“It doesn’t matter what percentage. The story is that a black kid from a single parent house made it from [the Marcy Projects] about six minutes away from here. So the fact that I have any ownership in this franchise is f—ing amazing. The fact that I have any ownership in this venue is f—ing amazing. Don’t let them diminish your accomplishment or dim your shine. It’s f—ing amazing.”
Good point! Rumors be gone!
Plus, little ownership or majority ownership, we’re sure he’s pulling in some big bucks for little Blue Ivy’s college fund…
