The American Idol grande finale was tonight and it lived up to all the hype it generated going into it as David vs. David turned out to be the best finale in the shows history.
Ryan Seacrest did his usual “leave us hangin” when he said the word David, but he quickly followed up with (as expected) Cook! who has been gaining momentum on front runner David Archuleta since his rendition of Billie Jean over 6 weeks ago.
A record setting 97 million votes came in and gave Cook a 56% to 44% win over the younger David.
Sites were reporting all day that the Cookies had stayed up late voting their asses off and as usual, my friend Jim Hellreigel at Dialidol.com predicted the winner giving his site a 97% accuracy rate for predictions this season.
The top 10 idols hit the road this summer and is sure to be a show you do not want to miss. After that.. Cook heads to Washington to take on heavyweights John McCain and Barack Obama!
I’d also like to thank Time Warner and my DVR for popping up the “your recording has finished” message right after Ryan said “David” and cutting out the sound of the last name. Talk about timing.
