Disney/Pixar is throwing their box office smash, ‘Toy Story 3’ in the hat for Best Picture at the Oscars this year.

Disney Chairman Rich Ross explains: “We’re going for the Best Picture win. We wanted to have the best movie and the reviews have clearly said that and it’s the number one box office hit of the year so I’m not sure why we would not go for it all,”

An animated film has never won Best Picture, and only Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ has been nominated back in 1991. (Up was nominated last year in the newly created “Best Animated” category.

Obviously the competition will be stiff, but we say go for it!

Disney is set to launch an ad campaign for Toy Story 3 for Best Picture shortly, referencing back to previous BP winners with Toy Story’s famous characters.  The ads will run as soon as they are all approved.
