Retailers and movie rental companies have been sent into a frenzy ahead of the release of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ on DVD, because Sony has decided to give the disc a pirated look.
The official release features a plain silver disc complete with a title written in marker, much like that of the pirated DVDs your friends passed around in college. DVD retailers are now being forced to put up warning notices, in order to avoid mass confusion from consumers.
Amazon.com wrote a note to buyers on the movie’s page: “It has come to our attention that there has been some confusion on the DVD disc art as it appears to look like a bootlegged copy. Please note that the disc art is in fact the final approved disc art provided to us by the filmmakers.
Redbox has also provided a warning note to potential renters, “NOTE TO RENTERS: The handwritten look on the disc of this movie is legitimate and is intended to look like a burned DVD.”
It’s a neat idea, but could definitely cause confusion.
I for one was delighted to see David Fincher go back to his
darker tone (see Fight Club / Se7en) and really blow us away with this remake. The entire cast really worked well together
in one of the hottest movies of 2011, which was shunned by the Academy but made
my Top 10 on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/01/top-10-movie-picks-of-2011.html
where you can see some cool movie art and read about 10 movies which DIDN’T get
the dishonor of being nominated for Best Picture.
There is in us a lyric germ or nucleus which
deserves respect; it bids a man to ponder or create; and in this dim
corner of himself he can take refuge and find consolations which the
society of his fellow creatures does not provide.
