The long search for a replacement for Regis Philban on ‘Live!’ may be over. According to a new report, Seth Meyers may be the one who ultimately lands the job.
Meyers will begin a week-long guest hosting stint with Kelly Ripa this coming Monday, and a decision could be made by the end of the week.
Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 has reported that Meyers is the lead choice to become the full time co-host this September, with the other possible hopefuls being former NFL star Michael Strahan, and Josh Groban.
All three names have filled in as co-hosts several times since Regis’ departure, but Meyers week long residency is the first time a guest host has filled in for an entire work week, since Neil Patrick Harris did it last year.
NPH was originally the favorite for the gig, but the shooting schedule conflicted with ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ Another who was also said to be one of the favorites, Anderson Cooper, also had conflict with his other programs, ‘AC360,’ and ‘Anderson.’
What would this mean for Seth’s role as head writer for SNL? According to one source, Meyers would likely stay on the show as part of the ‘Weekend Update’ sketch, but would step down as head writer, a role he has held for the past seven seasons.
