Mars Rover Plays New Will.I.Am Single

will.i.am of the Black Eyed peas has become the first musician to be broadcast on board the Curiosity rover on Mars.

The singer was broadcast on Tuesday from Mars during a teaching lesson for children here on Earth.

On Saturday, NASA released a statement announcing that Will’s latest song was to be broadcast on August 28 (Tuesday) from Mars abroad the Curiosity rover.

The song was played during an education event to share with students the findings on the red planet, and took place at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

The statement read;  “Members of the team that successfully landed the rover on Mars earlier this month will explain to students the mission and the technology behind the song’s interplanetary transmission. will.i.am will then premiere ‘Reach for the Stars,’ a new composition about the singer’s passion for science, technology and space exploration.”

An article from the New York Times tackled the popular question among everyone, whether or not any actual life on Mars would be treated to Will.I.Am’s track?

“The rover does not have speakers to broadcast music to its surrounding landscape, and the thin Martian air would have distorted the sound.”

The Black Eye’d peas singer’s new track was a perfect choice for the lesson, as some of the lyrics read; “And I know the sky might be high / But baby it ain’t really that high / And I know that Mars might be far / But baby it ain’t really that far / Let’s reach for the stars.”

“Reach for the Stars ” was also  released as a single on Tuesday as well.
