I love when stars open up their home to orphans! The latest star to be out to purchase a kid is Greys Anatomy star Katherine Heigl.
Heigl and her man Josh Kelly are thinking about adopting a little Korean tot according to reports.
They have reportedly filed the papers and been approved, and are now just waiting for the word, also meaning perhaps, waiting for the cutest kid to become available.
Their reasoning for picking Korea, is because all the young Chinese girls have been ordered to stay local to train for the 2012 Olympics. Ok not really, but it’s really because Heigl’s sister, Meg, was adopted from Korea 30 years ago.
So it’s more of a family tradition. Great!
I do understand that you’re in the business of ridiculing anything and everything that celebrities do, but adoption is a huge issue that affects millions of people worldwide — it’s not something trendy or lighthearted or silly or really, in my opinion, on the list of things that should be made fun of. in case you care, here is the short list of things that are wrong with your written opinion here…
1) you don’t purchase a kid when you adopt, you pay the fees associated with two governments assuring that your home is suitable to bring an adopted child into, and that the child is healthy and you are fully aware of any medical/emotional issues.
2) They will not get to choose their baby, a baby/toddler will be “referred” to them, and they will either accept or deny the referral, based on many different issues, the least of which being “cuteness”. If they deny the referral, they continue to wait to be referred the next child available. many waiting families do deny referrals, but not often — usually if the child has medical concerns they don’t feel they could handle.
I know you don’t care, but I thought I’d take a minute to enlighten you…
